Soccer Player Resolution for 2008

For athletes, it's in your nature to be better tomorrow, everyday, and every year.

We want to do our best to make each new season better than the last. Below are some simple strategies to maintain a continual improvement plan. We have also included some sample drills for your use.

Players that want to improve your basic soccer skills...

Practicing once a week, for a little more than 1 hour, and dreaming of getting better, is pretty much that: a dream. If you do not dedicate time during each week, even by practicing a little every day, you'll always stay at the same level.

Remember, every goal needs a "SMART" plan:

  • Be Specific. Know what you want to achieve.
  • Make it Measurable.
  • Make sure it's Attainable.
  • Be Realistic with your goals.
  • Set a Timeline to get to your results.

Spend a little time running, a little time juggling, and practicing simple foot work. Ask your coach to give you some Specific home work, something that will generate an Attainable improvement.

The secret is not to set a long daily program that will be abandoned; but instead, make it a Realistic 15-20 minute daily routine. Make your practice a regular part of your day like having breakfast or playing a video game or listening to music. Use your weekly scheduled games as your Timeline for your targeted areas of improvement.

This plan is applicable to all age groups.

So, in 2008, get better a little every day! Remember that it's important to Have Fun too!
